When I first offered sessions at Scissortail, I knew exactly what I wanted them to look like. I had been eyeing the flower mural in the play yard for months. The creative vision was clear.
What I didn’t expect was how much the entire space would open up.
Not just for the photos, but for the experience itself.
After one of the first sessions, a mom said to me,
“It was so fun. I loved that the kids could just be themselves and run around. There wasn’t any pressure for them to sit still or be a certain way.
That’s exactly what this space allows for.

What You Can Expect…
If you’ve never done a session at Scissortail, it helps to picture it.
We’re not tucked into a tight spot or asking kids to stay in one place. The play yard is open, textured, and full of little pockets that naturally invite movement. Kids wander. They climb, run, pause, come back. Parents follow, laugh, crouch down, reach for a hand.
And that’s where the images come from.
Not from forcing stillness—but from letting things unfold just enough.
There’s always a little bit of guidance. I’ll step in when needed, adjust positioning, bring you back together. But there’s no pressure to perform. No expectation that your kids need to act a certain way for this to “work.”
In fact, the opposite is usually true.
The moments people end up loving most are the ones they didn’t plan for.
At some point, things settle.
Kids find their rhythm. You stop wondering what to do with your hands. It starts to feel less like a “photoshoot” and more like just being together, outside, with a little direction along the way.
That’s the sweet spot.

What Is The Guided Journal?
Before the session, there’s a small reflection piece.
Most people don’t quite know what to expect with it at first. One mom shared that it caught her off guard a little—having to pause and think about things she hadn’t really put into words before. But once she got into it, she found herself enjoying it. Just having the space to reflect.
That reflection does more than people expect.
It gives you a moment to step back and recognize what this season actually means to you—so when you walk into the session, you’re not trying to perform or figure it out on the spot. You’re already grounded in it.
It also gives me a window into that meaning, so I’m not just directing a session—I’m paying attention to what matters most to you and guiding with that in mind.
And then, after the session is over, you receive your letter.
Something to open privately.
To read slowly.
To frame, or tuck away somewhere meaningful.
Something you can come back to a year from now. Ten. Twenty.
A snapshot of this season—
not just how it looked, but how it felt from your own perspective.

These sessions are also created in partnership with local businesses.
Each one is an opportunity not just to photograph your family, but to surround moms with small, thoughtful touches—things that make the experience feel cared for from beginning to end.
It’s a way of pouring back into you, while also supporting the businesses that are part of this community.
Something simple, but intentional.

These sessions are simple…
They’re not about perfect behavior or perfectly posed images.
They’re about stepping into a space that gives your family room to be exactly what it already is—and having that reflected back to you in a way that feels honest.
